At a Trolls footage screening, Kendrick and Justin sang a weepy rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s 1980s hit True Colors. Directed by Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn, Trolls will star Kendrick’s voice as a queen troll (Poppy), and Timberlake as a grumpy old troll (Branch), and other voices by Christine Baranski, Zooey Deschanel, Kunal Nayyar, Gwen Stefani and James Corden.
But no one could accuse Kendrick of looking like a troll at the Cannes opening night gala at the Palais des Festivals, where she wore a yellow, form-fitting Stella McCartney gown with a dripping, silver Bulgari pendant.
Meanwhile, in the Côte d’Azur sunshine, a Trolls Fashion Show featured nine be-wigged fashion London models strutting down a pier overlooking the Mediterranean. Their 1960s acid trip-colored wigs and gowns were a playful tribute to a new addition to the DreamWorks Animation canon. No, it wasn’t a hallucination!
DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffery Katzenberg anticipates a big splash for Trolls on Nov. 4, 2016 – and hopes the nostalgia will fuel renewed interest in the dolls. The company went so far as to purchase the Troll doll brand from the Dam company, originally created by Danish fisherman and woodcutter Thomas Dam.
